PremiumWhat changes when you move to metal
Engraved pens in metal feel different the moment you pick one up: heavier, cool to the touch and with no creak when you click them. That is why they get used in a client meeting or stay for years in the inside pocket of a jacket. Their place is not in a trade fair giveaway bag, but as a gift for a specific person, while the rest of our custom pens cover larger handouts.
The other big change is the branding. On metal, the logo is nearly always engraved: the laser removes the colour coating or marks the surface itself, and the result does not rub off with friction or daily use. It appears in a single, discreet tone, which is exactly what you expect from an item at this level.
Aluminium or steel: which metal pen to choose
| Type | How it feels | Engraving result | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anodised aluminium | Lightweight, with the colour integrated into the surface | Light, almost white, against the body colour | New starters, teams and medium-volume gifts |
| Recycled aluminium | The same feel as standard aluminium, using recovered material | The same light engraving | Campaigns with an environmental focus |
| Stainless steel | Heavier and more solid, close to a premium pen | Grey on bare steel; if lacquered, the steel shows through | Clients, senior management and anniversaries |
| Metal with stylus tip | A stylus tip at the end for using screens | Engraving on the barrel, like the rest | Sales teams and anyone who works with a tablet |
Details that set a good metal pen apart
- Mechanism. A firm click or a smooth twist is the first thing the recipient notices. If you are ordering many, test it first with a sample.
- Thickness. Slim barrels look smart beside a notebook; thicker ones are easier to hold through long note-taking sessions.
- Refill. A metal pen is made to last. Check the product page for the refill type and ink colour.
- Print area. The logo usually goes on the barrel, along the pen; on some models it also fits on the clip. The product page shows the maximum size for each area.
- Presentation. Loose, in a sleeve or in a gift box. If it is for gifting, our branded writing sets add the box and a second writing instrument.
Branding techniques for metal
The price on each product page includes a one-colour logo in the standard branding area.
| Technique | Result | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Laser or CO₂ engraving | Single tone: the colour of the metal revealed underneath | Most of the time: it is permanent and the finish people expect on metal |
| Pad printing | One or more solid colours | When the logo has to appear in your corporate colour |
| Name engraving | A different name on each unit, in addition to the logo | Individual gifts, on models that allow it: ask for it in the quote and send the list |
The configurator on each product page shows the techniques available for that model.
Typical mistakes when engraving metal pens
- Expecting coloured engraving. Laser does not add ink: the logo appears in the tone of the metal. If colour is essential, ask for pad printing.
- Engraving a light or silver barrel. The contrast is minimal and the logo is hard to read; dark tones show it best.
- Putting a text logo on the clip: the area is so narrow that only a symbol really fits.
- Using the same metal pen for a trade fair and for senior management. For large-scale handouts, custom plastic pens work better; metal is best kept for people who will appreciate it.
- Placing a large order without having held it first. A sample lets you check the weight, the mechanism and the tone of the engraving.
Where it fits and how to order
A metal pen works well as an individual gift: welcoming a new starter, a client visit, signing an agreement or a company anniversary. Paired with a custom notebook with a hard cover, it makes the classic writing set, and if you want to go a step further, there are also custom fountain pens and rollerballs.
Each model is available from 10 units per item, with a minimum order of €100.00 per quote, excluding VAT and delivery. We send you a free mock-up with the engraving shown to scale, and you pay only when you approve it. Production usually takes two or three weeks, depending on the technique and quantity, and shipping is tracked to one address or several sites across the European Union.
Why it works
The cheapest product per person reached.
A pen costs pennies and is used by many more people than those who receive it: it gets lent, forgotten and travels. For a trade show or a mass mailing, it's still unbeatable, as long as it writes well.
- Ink refill with declared autonomy
- Metal clip on mid-range ones
- Certified recycled plastic in almost the entire catalogue

The detail
Pad printing is the technique for curves.
On a round body, it's the only one that keeps the logo straight. Flat screen printing gets distorted.
