What insulates is not the steel, but the vacuum

Branded flasks keep temperature thanks to the vacuum between their two steel walls: with no air inside, very little heat passes from the inside out. That is why two flasks that look the same can perform very differently. In 18/8 stainless steel models with a double wall and a good vacuum, product pages often state 8 to 12 hours hot and up to 24 hours cold in 500 to 750 ml sizes. Some models add a copper layer on the inner wall, which reflects heat and extends those times.

Single-wall bottles, by contrast, do not insulate: coffee cools quickly and the outside gets hot or sweaty. They are not worse, they are for something else, such as cold water at the gym or on the go, and you can find them in sports bottles and drinks bottles. Before you choose, check on the product page whether the model is double-wall vacuum insulated and how many hours it states.

The opening and lid decide how it is used

• Narrow opening with screw cap: keeps temperature for the most hours and is the least likely to leak inside a rucksack.
• Wide opening: easier to clean, takes ice and works for smoothies or soup, but loses heat every time you open it.
• Lid with closure and lock: for drinking one-handed in the car or at your desk. It is the difference between a dry laptop and a wet one.
• Stopper with cup: the classic flask for sharing on a day out or during a field day.
• Bamboo or cork lid: a natural finish and a second area where you can engrave a small logo.

The price on each product page includes one-colour branding in the standard area; another technique or a second branding position is adjusted in the quote.

• Laser engraving: removes the coating and leaves the logo in the tone of the steel. It does not wear off with use or washing, and it is the default option for branded thermos flasks.
• 360° laser engraving: goes all around the body, for designs that can be seen from any angle.
• 360° digital print or pad printing: for full-colour logos or gradients. They reproduce your exact colour, but wear worse with rubbing than engraving.
• Resin dome on a plaque: a full-colour badge covered with clear resin, on models that have a plaque for the logo.

Typical mistakes when ordering flasks with logo

• Buying a single-wall bottle thinking it is insulated. The product page tells you whether it is double-wall vacuum insulated.
• Choosing a wide opening for carrying in a rucksack: if it does not have a screw closure, it is more likely to leak.
• Putting it in the dishwasher. The heat can damage the vacuum and the coating; the body should be washed by hand. Many lids are dishwasher safe, and the product page tells you.
• Requesting a full-colour logo with laser. Engraving comes out in the tone of the steel; if colour is essential, change the technique.
• Not checking the diameter. If the flask is for someone who drives a lot, check on the product page that it fits in a car cup holder.

When it makes sense to give a flask

A personalised thermos flask works where a mug does not: field teams, sites, logistics, sales staff who spend the day in the car and offices without a coffee machine. For these profiles, the format least likely to end up in a drawer is the 500 to 750 ml bottle with a narrow opening; for a desk, 350 or 400 ml and a leakproof lid are enough. It also works well in new starter packs, because it gets used on day one and is still on the desk a year later.

At trade fairs and conferences, it helps to decide first whether the flask is for your team or for visitors: for your team, an engraved insulated bottle is worth it; for giveaway items on the stand, lighter formats often work better, such as those in event merchandise.
